Character traits - Buck

Buck moves from the midst of a secure civilized existence to a life of hardship and toil.  In adapting himself to his new owners and the harsh environment, he displays distinct character traits.  Can you identify any three of his traits?  Support your answer with evidence from Chapter 2.

  1. One of Buck´s character traits is that he has a very strong will.
As long as he is is with persons he knows he is relaxed but if he is given into the hands of a stranger he starts to bark and growl.
He is able to get the abilities his ancestors once had, to adjust to the change that happened to him.
Buck can also fastly harden against weather and pain what most southland dogs can´t. In chapter 2 it is meantioned that Buck saw very few southland dogs on their way.

    1. Kim, find evidence for each of the character traits that you have pointed out. Always support with evidence. That makes your answer that much more credible.

  2. He has become very sly stealing food from his master and other dogs getting in trouble. In the book page 22 first para Buck steals from Perrault and Dub gets into trouble.

He has become fit and strong. "His muscles became hard as iron, and he grew callous to all ordinary pain."

He has become adaptable to the ways of the wild for example the weather.

  3. He is very brave/strong because he is getting use to the place totally different from the place he was living, but he listens to the instruction carefully. He doesn't grumble, learns things very fast and he is very intelligent. He is patient but he wasn't able to hold out so he stole food to cover his hunger and made the other dog' fault, but in that way he thinks a lot and he's intelligent.

    1. Good character observations. Can you support each of these with evidence from the Chapter - that would really make your answer complete, Tohko.

  4. Buck has become a trickster during his harsh experience. In Chapter 2, it's reads that Buck had stolen extra food from a man, and when the man came to find the bag have less food he blamed it on a dog named Dub, instead of Buck. He has also adapted quickly to the way things were done, as he is a fast learner.Buck was going to bed in a tent when something had wiggled under him, only to find Billee, another dog. So he copied Billee, and dug a hole in the ground so he could sleep in warmth.

  5. buck is a very fast learner since he learnt how to steal food, hunt for food and dig a hole in the snow so that he could stay warm.
and he can adjust to any climate and way of life.

  7. Buck is someone who can adapt very quickly as I had read in chapter two. He can get used to the situation fast without having to be a nervous wreck.
He had learnt how to steal food from his master and hunt for his own. Buck is obviously a fast learner.
His muscles are now very strong and he has learnt how to dig a hole in the snow to have shelter.

  9. Buck is a strong hearten dog who's brave, strong, and also full of eagerness to do/complete something. But, since he has moved to the new environment which is unfamiliar to him, his character changes a bit. In chapter 2, as his not use to the sled, master, weather, and food, he steals food since he was really hungry and blames the poor other dog Dub. He couldn't fight for his hunger. His eagerness. But as I said he's full of desire, he studies, and adapts himself very well to this new environment. Such as making nests for his comfy stay for a brumal weather night, and gets use to it really well and fast.

  10. Buck is learning pretty fast how to adapt himself to the his new life of hard work and to his new owners.
When he faced the problem of sleeping with the chill wind and the brumal weather while the tent seemed really worm and comfortable, but he knew he had to stay there so, trying to sleep, he decided to dig a hole in the snow so he could sleep warmer .
He lied to his owner as he didnt do anything to prove that he did it when he stole the food and the man was blaming another dog.
He learned when he should do things and how to do them, he had learn a lot so far

  11. Buck adapted quickly to the harsh, cold climate.

He learns to listen to his masters as they tell him to mush on. He first is very curious and rarely obeys, but he quickly learns to follow his masters or get the club.

At night, where the climate is most harsh and very cold, he learns to dig a hole in the snow to keep warm as all the other dogs have done.

Buck becomes very sly and quick as he stole Perrault's bacon and Dub is blamed.

  12. Buck adapted very quickly to the brumal, harsh weather, By digging the ground to make his own home.

It also says in the book that he is very cheeky, he steals yummy food from his masters, and Francois and Perrault come outside and start accusing dub for the accident.

He has become extremely strong and fit. It also states that "His muscles became hard as iron, and he grew callous to all ordinary pain." meaning like he did care about the pain which struck him.

  13. As Buck adapts to the brumal weather in Alaska, he shows many particular new traits.
First, he becomes stronger due to the weather and his harsh owners. It states in the book that "he grew callous to all ordinary pain." A second trait that he shows is that he's more intelligent than the other dogs. He shows maturity (doesn't usually get into fights) and he figures out how to steal food. Third, he shows that he can learn quickly. He learns how to dig a hole to keep warm and he watches his owners' actions to learn and understand many things.
